Your Biggest Limit is Yourself

I posted this motivational quote on my instagram feed and while I agree with it to an extent, there are plenty of variables in ones life when it comes to achieving your goals as it pertains to fitness and well-being. Genetics, training modality, time, experience, mental health are only a few. I know that for me mental health is a big one as i can go from being super motivated about my diet and training one week, and then when a bout of depression kicks in, I lose all motivation to pretty much do anything much less train.

This week, I'm feeling generally happy in my head or should I say not miserable. The same things that I had issues with are still there but this week, i'm able to deal with them in a more constructive way.As someone who suffers from clinical depression but opted to stop medicating, it is interesting to see what my triggers for getting in and out of these bouts. This week, for whatever reason, after the depression had subsided, it seems that music was my "happy place" this week. not just any music, but I decided to create an 80s playlist on my spotify. Songs that I always loved singing to as a kid.(I'm 40). Depeche mode, inxs, duran duran,hall & oats, springsteen, u2, and a host of others. that little hit of happiness led me to get my workouts done so far, and even get in some sauna time which in turn made me feel even better. riding this small wave of positivity has even made be that much more productive, hence writing this blog. I even did some yard work and I hate yard work.

Anyone who may read this, I think the take away, is take care of yourself, not just physically,but mentally. And if you do suffer from depression like me, and you're in the midst of a shit sandwich, try and find something small to hold onto and build on it.
